Mike retired from LHS in 2001, but substituted as a principal at Southwest Middle School, New York Elementary and Broken Arrow Elementary!
Mike served on the Board of Penn House, Crime Stoppers, and the Lawrence High School Alumni Association Board.
After retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren Erick, Cal, Macy, Kayla, Molly and Riley and attending their numerous activities. He could also be seen at most LHS sporting events! He loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends!
After Mike passed away April 5, 2014 several former students and parents posted comments about his impact on students at LHS:
He was the big brother/uncle/father that was always there for me with a lesson, a joke, a thoughtful ear, a smile, and even a hug!
He was a great man and wonderful leader at LHS
He was always there to talk to and listen when someone was in trouble or just needed a friend to talk to
Mr. B always had a smile for anyone that passed his way
Several of us students would not have made it through high school without Mr. Browning
He could relate to all students in even the most difficult situations
I will always remember Mike as a gentle man with a great sense of humor
Mr. B touched so many young people’s lives with support for all students and he was truly committed to their success!!
