He was born on December 13, 1913, in Lawrence, Kansas. He graduated from Lawrence High School where he played Center on the football team. He received a degree in Geology from the University of Kansas in 1937. Geology wasn't just his profession, it was his hobby and his passion


He was a Navy Lieutenant during World War II, serving as a photo interpreter aboard the USS Curtis in the Central Pacific.


He worked in the petroleum industry for 37 years. He lived in the US, Venezuela, Canada," · Kuwait, Libya, United Kingdom, Italy, and Norway while pursuing his career. His last position before retiring in 1974 was President of Phillips Petroleum Norway.


He passed away in 2010.


He had a great sense of humor and a true zest for life. He loved traveling to out-of-the-way places and on roads "without yellow stripes."
